Hi to all,
Well
it's that time of the year again!! No not the Holidays (although it is
that also), but the relaese of the
Beaujolais Nouveau is upon
us and in good French form we
will celebrate it's arrival at Vino 100 Saturday November 18th. For
those who want to know more read
on.
At exactly one minute past midnight on the 3rd
Thursday of
November the
Nouveau is officially
released.Over
60 million bottles leave Southern France
on their
journey around the world. This worldwide release is an
example of extraordinary
marketing and owes much of it's success to the "King of Beaujolais"
Georges Duboeuf and his passionate promotion of the wine. This is no
cellaring wine
guys. The French call it
"a bouquet of field flowers and fruit in a velvet-lined
basket"
(don't ask for the French version please) and that bright fruit
character will
begin to fade after 6 months. The good news is this vivacious
raspberry
and cherry flavored wine is very food friendly and makes a great
addition to
your Holiday Table. Best served chilled it has
often been called
the only "White Wine that is Red".
Getting technical the secret to the
Nouveau's
characteristics comes from a winemaking technique known as carbonic
maceration. Began in the 1960's this method ferments whole
clusters of
grapes instead of crushing them first. The result is a low
tannin fruity
wine that has had less contact between the juice and the tannic skins
and
seeds.
So as the French do "Sip one last
taste of Summer"
and enjoy one more reason for a "Celebration"!
See you Saturday,
Risa
